Tobago-born singer/songwriter, Kevon « KKay » Joseph is sending out a beacon to all Trinbagonians living abroad, as he prepares to release his latest single, a catchy Groovy Soca song entitled, « Home For Carnival ».
« The inspiration for this song is basically the many colors of Carnival, » Joseph explained. « It’s about the joy of that experience of being on the road – where you find all the vibes, the rhythm, the energy and camaraderie of the people, etc. It’s a feeling that stays with you throughout the year and throughout your life – even and especially if you move away from the islands! So I wanted to remind people everywhere of the feeling and those colors that stay in your mind and heart like a vision of home. I know next year the season is short, but I’m hoping after the elections and with a new government in place here, many people will return home for Carnival. »
Joseph has been writing, recording and performing for almost ten years and recently moved to Trinidad to better establish himself in the local music industry. Along the way, he has forged great relationships with industry professionals here and abroad and recently signed a distribution deal for the single Home for Carnival
(Nutation Records Remix) with VPAL Music a sub label of VPRecords. This was a great motivator for me also because the local market can be so fickle you may start to doubt yourself and your talent if you don’t have external outlets and people who will give you constructive criticism, advice and show genuine interest in your music » K.Kay explained
« I think that competition will be very interesting next year, » he said. « With Machel out of the race now, it’s really anyone’s crown for the taking and I’m hoping to be able to enter both the Power and the Groovy and really represent for Tobago and show the world what I can do! »
« My first two singles ‘Higher‘ featuring Tim Starr and ‘Repatriate‘ featuring Fridge were well received overseas and are still doing well in Europe especially, » Joseph revealed. « The music industry is really a global market now so you really have to get your songs out there if you want to be successful. Those songs were more hip-hop, rock and reggae flavored because I really love all different types of music, but of course, Soca is our thing so I wrote this wonderful song for people everywhere who love Carnival and may intend or hope to come home next year. »
